Will NCIS: ORIGINS Return for Season 2?

NCIS: ORIGINS is likely coming in for round two.
“So far, NCIS: ORIGINS has been a mega-hit with NCIS fans. The prequel series adds some context to Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ character,” The Mirror US reported Dec. 19. “It delves into the life of young Leroy at the beginning of his career, which started with the Naval Investigative Service (NIS) before he joined what fans know as today’s NCIS team.”
The show is already in Paramount+’s Top 10 chart.
Showrunner David J. North recently teased that there will be a sequel, though neither CBS nor Paramount+ have confirmed.
“We’re really proud of what we’re making, and the goal is always, obviously, to get as many eyes on it as possible. I know that we’re doing well on Paramount+; after we air, the following day we’re always in the Top 10,” North said. “I do know that CBS and Paramount are in it for the long haul, so we just try to keep our heads down and write as good of material as possible. And this cast, they’re fantastic, they really are. I think we have something special here, and I hope everybody comes on board.”
“NCIS: ORIGINS might stand toe-to-toe with other crime dramas, but the real competition resides within the NCIS universe. The decades-long franchise has a few fan-favorite spinoffs such as NCIS: LOS ANGELES and NCIS: HAWAII along with the original NCIS, which has been going strong since 2003,” The Mirror US said.

ORIGINS’ unique edge is that it’s a prequel series. Fans are already familiar with NCIS’s main characters and want to know their backstory.
“NCIS: ORIGINS being in the top ten is an indicator to showrunners as well as the show’s cast members that the storylines are connecting with viewers,” The Mirror US said. “Although a second season isn’t officially guaranteed, if the ratings continue to be high it might be.”
Soap Central reported, “If NCIS: ORIGINS Season 2 is greenlit in the upcoming months, it can be expected to premiere in the fall of 2025.”
If the show is renewed, it would provide more opportunities to explore the start of the government division, like “the real-life events that contributed to its fallout, otherwise known as the Tailhook scandal, which consequently birthed NCIS in 1993,” Screen Rant said.
NCIS’s “Engaged” episode previously won a Movieguide® Teddy Bear Award®.
