Will Poulter Joins MCU, Celebrates Family’s Support: ‘They Are Like Real-Life Superheroes’

By Movieguide® Contributor

The newest member of the MCU, Will Poulter, recently revealed how his family reacted when they learned of his new role in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3.

The 30-year-old stated, “It’s funny, my family are mostly all medics: nurses, doctors – it kind of sounds cheesy, but they are like real-life superheroes.”

“They were very supportive, and very excited for me, obviously. And they’ve since watched all of the Guardians films,” Poulter added.

“My mum and dad were the only people within my family who had not seen the Guardians films,” he continued, “And they watched them back-to-back as soon as I got the role.”

When questioned about what it was like joining the Marvel Universe at such a late stage within the franchise Poulter stated, “I was nervous from the outside looking in. I was a really big fan of the Guardians movies, and within the Marvel Universe this was the trilogy that I was the biggest admirer of.”

His nerves quickly disappeared when he arrived on set of the film, the actor stated, “I couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome, by everyone.”

Movieguide® recently reported the film’s opening weekend box office results:

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 beat expectations after the latest Marvel movie opened to $289.3 million globally.

The third, and final, installment in the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY trilogy released to theaters this weekend as the summer movie season starts up. The movie was originally forecasted to bring in $170 million during its opening weekend, but thanks to positive word-of-mouth, the estimate was raised to $282 million, which was easily surpassed by the real numbers.

The movie raked in $114 million at the domestic box office, making it the second-largest opening weekend this year, trailing only to THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE. The Marvel movie was especially popular in Imax, which drew in $25 million in global ticket sales, the largest global opening of the year for Imax.

“James Gunn and our partners at Marvel and Disney leaned heavily into Imax technology to deliver a s=visually stunning and emotional finale to this iconic franchise,” Imax CEO Rich Gelfond said. “We expect the strong audience response to yield a long, successful run at the box office.”

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 is James Gunn’s final movie with Marvel before he takes over at DC Studios. This movie is of particular interest to Christian audiences as it promotes a strong Christian worldview, including multiple positive references to God and heaven. However, parents should be cautioned that the movie also includes large amounts of profanity and violence.
