Why Christopher Reeve’s Son Doesn’t Plan on Following His Dad’s Superhero Footsteps

Christopher Reeve’s son Will recently explained why he’s not planning on stepping into his father’s superhero shoes.

“No, I’ve never gotten the ask,” Will said when LIVE! WITH KELLY AND MARK host Kelly Ripa said she was surprised DC Studios hadn’t asked him to play Superman.

Will continued, “I learned at an early age from my parents, who were both accomplished performers, that in order to succeed in entertainment, or really anything, but certainly in entertainment, you need to need the craft like you need air to breathe.”

“It has to be a core part of who you are,” he continued. “For me, I acted in school plays and things, but that was just part of who I was. I didn’t need it. I realized as an ambitious person, I should channel my energies into the things that I’m really passionate about, which is what led me to journalism.”

Will is an ABC News correspondent, and his latest project for the network pays tribute to his late father. WILL REEVE: FINDING MY FATHER follows Will as he retraces his father’s last expedition for nature documentary IN THE WILD: GRAY WHALES before the horseback-riding accident that paralyzed him in 1995.

“For decades, I have dreamed of visiting those last locations he filmed before his accident,” Will wrote in an essay for ABC News’ website. “I wanted the world to remember Christopher Reeve as a hero, sure, a super man, an advocate, activist, and author, all these things that he was. But I also wanted to bring the world with me on a literal and figurative quest to find my dad at his essence.”

After his trip, Will said he “left with a better understanding of myself and of my dad; of the natural world and of humanity. Of how they all connect through space and time.”

Despite his protestations about a potential acting career, Will does feature in the upcoming SUPERMAN movie, which stars David Corenswet as the hero.

“I know the folks making the film, and they’ve been so kind to me and my family, and I had a free day, so we made it [happen],” Reeve told TMZ. “It was a really great experience; they were super friendly; it was quick, easy…I was actually more nervous doing that than I am whenever I’m on TV for my normal job because there was so many people around and I had to memorize one line, but still!”
