Will the Box Office Finally Rebound in 2025?
By Movieguide® Contributor
Box office numbers are still in a post-COVID slump, but AMC’s CEO has high hopes for 2025.
“In our conversations with Hollywood studios, one thing we’re most encouraged about is that so many studios are trying to increase the number of movies that they release now as compared with what they were releasing one or two or three years ago,” CEO Adam Aron said in Q3 earnings call.
He added, “We need the blockbusters, but we need the medium- and smaller-sized movies. Some studios were producing 25 films and were down to 10-12. We talked to one major studio two weeks ago, who said their calendar aspiration for 2025 is to release 38 movies!”
“Now whether they can actually release 38, there’s no commitment,” Aron said. “What I’m comforted by is that each and every studio that we talk to wants to issue more product.”
One of the movies Aron is hoping will boost box office sales? MOANA 2.
“Some people in the know are telling me that MOANA 2 could eclipse and outshine even the success of INSIDE OUT 2,” he revealed.
For comparison, INSIDE OUT 2 remains 2024’s highest-grossing movie in America, with $652.9 million.
Others are also hopeful about MOANA 2’s prospective box office performance.

“Maybe the most important thing we did was negotiate hard with our lenders that in 2026…if the circumstances are right we can refinance all this debt yet again, pushing it out further than 2030,” he said during Variety‘s annual Entertainment and Technology Summit.
Aron added, “I can tell you with such confidence that the combination of resolving our balance sheet with a rising box office means rising profitability. We get to play on offense again. Our industry has been playing on defense for four and a half years.”
Aron has long been optimistic about AMC’s chances, saying it is “on a ramp” to bigger and better things.
