You Can Have Hope in a Chaotic World — Here’s How

By Movieguide® Contributor

Pastor Max Lucado joined Shannon Bream on her podcast to discuss why people can have hope in the midst of a dark world.

“The beauty about the Bible in a variety of things is one, it gives us a timeline,” the NYT best-selling author said. “It describes what God’s intent is with history. It tells us that we’re not a part of an endless cycle of meaningless events, but that God is directing history stage by stage, milestone by milestone toward a wonderful, climatic end. We need that hope today.”

The growing hopelessness in the world is obvious, but God has a plan.

“If you look at the statistics with teenagers battling anxiety and unprecedented proportions with the suicide rate,” Lucado continued.  “It’s higher than it’s been since World War II. We’re divided. We’re anxious. We’re troubled. And I do believe that God’s solution is to tell us what happens next. To help us break free from feeling trapped in this life, and to raise our hope and expectation about the next life.”

This conversation stems from his new book, “What Happens Next: A Traveler’s Guide Through the End of This Age.”

A synopsis of the book reads:

What Happens Next is an optimistic, accessible, and nonsensational guide to what the Bible says about heaven’s time line that will empower you to face the future with faith. Max takes you on a well-researched overview of what God’s Word says, exploring the following four big ideas that provide a solid foundation for understanding God’s eternal plan:

  • We were made to reign with Christ.
  • God has made and will keep his promises.
  • Heaven has a time line.
  • A golden era-the millennium-awaits God’s children.

“Whether readers find themselves in the ‘I can’t wait,’ ‘I’m almost ready,’ or ‘I’m not sure about all of this’ camp, they will be encouraged to ponder God’s plans and promises for the future,” a post on his Instagram shares. “In Max’s signature encouraging style, he reminds us, ‘It’s all about hope. It’s all about him.'”

Movieguide® previously reported on Lucado:

Author and church leader Max Lucado is opening up about how he has handled his ascending aortic aneurysm diagnosis.

“As far as dealing with anxiety, I really spiraled downward,” he explained. The aneurysm, a bulging and weakening in the aorta, was “pretty large” and about “two centimeters shy of needing open heart surgery.”

“I’m 67, almost 68 years old. And I’m finally coming to grips with the fact that I’m not getting younger. I’m a slow learner,” he explained. “I kept thinking, ‘I’m going to dodge all these major health issues.’ So for the first two or three days, it was really a wake-up call.”

The diagnosis came on a Monday. By Thursday, Lucado experienced a miracle: his health anxiety was gone.

“I really felt, in a supernatural way one morning … I felt it lift,” Lucado shared. “I really did it just lift. And it’s not that I was healed, because I’m not, but the fear or the anxiety was lifted. And I attribute that to the Holy Spirit. I sought prayer and I received prayer, and so I can say now honestly, I do not live in fear of that.”
