YouTube Announces More Streaming Options, Revamped App

As YouTube continues to evolve, the media giant announced more content in partnership with third-party streaming services, as well as an app overhaul that will make the content more accessible.
“With more streaming options than ever before, it can get a little overwhelming jumping from app to app to find what you’re looking for,” Director of Product Management Erin Teague said.
Though the service already offers third-party streaming, a rebuilt platform will allow users to find the content more easily.
“The vision is that when you come to our [TV] app and you’re looking for a show, it’ll just blend away whether that show is from a Primetime Channel or that show is from a creator,” Kurt Wilms, YouTube’s senior director of product management, told The Information. The company has made some notable design tweaks to its TV app over the past year, and announced last month that TVs have become the “primary device” people use to watch YouTube.
Paramount is among those who will benefit from the rebuilt app.
“This new feature gives us the opportunity to expand our presence on YouTube, broadening our reach and giving consumers even more choice when it comes to streaming the best in entertainment,” Jeff Shultz, Paramount Streaming Chief Strategy Officer and Business Development Officer, said at the time of the start of the partnership.
YouTube’s CEO Neal Mohan recently reflected on the company’s growth and influence as the company celebrates their 20th anniversary, sharing that now more hours are spent watching YouTube on TV than mobile devices.
Mohan also shared a couple of other enhancements coming to YouTube regarding AI.
“AI has long been a part of our journey, from powering recommendations to producing captions to helping us identify and remove harmful content,” Mohan said. “As we look ahead, we’ll continue investing in AI tools that empower creators and artists throughout their creative journey”

The CEO said that they will continue to make improvements on AI-powered auto dubbing that will help content creators reach a larger audience and will increase the amount of languages available for translation.
Mohan said that the company is also working with creatives on technology that will provide “guardrails” to detect when a person’s voice and/ or image is used in AI-generated content.
“Through a pilot with the creative industry, some of the world’s most influential figures will soon have access to this early-stage technology and are providing critical feedback to help us build our detection systems and refine the controls,” he said.
