YouTube just hit a major milestone — the video-sharing platform now has more than 125 million subscribers worldwide for YouTube Music and Premium.

“Since launching YouTube Music and Premium, we’ve focused on giving subscribers a variety of ways to enjoy their favorite content, and Premium Lite is the latest step in that evolution,” Jack Greenberg, director of product management for YouTube Premium, wrote in a blog post. “YouTube Music and Premium, and the expansion of Premium Lite, also continue to create additional revenue opportunities for our creators and partners.”

Hitting the 125 million mark is “an incredible milestone,” Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s global head of music, shared.

“Many laughed [it] off as impossible when we first launched,” he said. “This momentum is critical to our goal of becoming the No. 1 contributor of revenue to the [music] industry, and we won’t stop until we get there.”

This success might also mean the resurgence of the music video, Cohen hypothesized.

“It’s not about having the biggest production budget; it’s about sharing authentic hero content that music fans can’t unsee,” he said. “It’s about using the artist’s most influential asset — the music video — and cutting through the tidal wave of clutter and choice.”

Premium Lite, which has been in the testing stages, is preparing to expand with a $7.99 subscription plan that will offer “most” videos without ads.

“In the coming weeks, we’ll also make Premium Lite available to all users in our current pilot countries — Thailand, Germany, and Australia,” YouTube wrote in a blog post.

YouTube doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon. The company published a blog post with their “big bets” for 2025, which include becoming the “new television” and “the startups of Hollywood.”

“It’s remarkable to think that YouTube has been helping people create, learn, connect and more for two decades,” the post shared. “As we embark on our next chapter, we’re committed to empowering creators, fostering community, and continuing to redefine how the world watches, listens, and connects.”
