YouTube will try out a new version of YouTube Premium Lite in select countries. The trial comes after a previous version of Premium Lite was tried and scrapped last year.

The new subscription will be available in Australia, Germany, and Thailand. The company told The Verge that “it has been testing a ‘different version’ of the subscription with ‘some users in Australia, Germany and Thailand for several months (with the most recent one beginning in Australia at the start of this year).’”

One major difference in this new version is that it includes “limited” ads, unlike the previous version which had no ads on YouTube and YouTube Kids. The only way to go fully ad-free is to invest in YouTube Premium.

YouTube Premium in the U.S. currently has a one-month free trial, and then costs $13.99/month after that. Features of premium include unlimited ad-free videos, offline videos, and background play where users can play videos and use other apps at the same time.

YouTube recently announced some major changes and updates coming to the app.

“Viewers who use YouTube to fall asleep will get a major update as users will soon be able to set a sleep timer, specifying how long they want a video to playback before their phone is allowed to turn off. The options will range from 10 minutes to one hour or until the current video ends. YouTube is also working to help creators further develop their communities on the site as their viewers will be awarded badges that label certain milestones, such as being the first paid supporter of a specific creator, correctly completing a quiz, being a top listener for an artist, or having a YouTuber like a message.”
