You’ve Got to Hear This Hilarious Moment Between Tim Allen and His Mom

Tim Allen recalled a moment with his mom straight out of a comedy movie when she got payback on him for putting her in a retirement facility.

After the death of their father, Allen and his siblings worked hard to keep her independent. They built her a one-story home so she didn’t have to worry about stairs and hired full-time care to keep her safe. However, she was still unable to safely function, and they were forced to move her into a retirement home — against her protests. A few months later, however, she would get payback when they brought her back to the house for Thanksgiving.

“My whole family shows up every Thanksgiving, and there’s about 30 of us, and we usually use her house and the doctor said… there’s a 50/50 chance she’ll come out of this stupor and realize that she’s back in her house and will not want to go, and you’re going to go through this horrible thing again. Or, she’ll just forget and have dinner and then drive her back [to the retirement home],” Allen told Mike Rowe on his “The Way I Heard It” podcast. “So, in the middle of dinner, she gets up and walks to her bedroom in the house.”

This is the worst-case-scenario that the doctor warned them about because Allen’s mother realized where she was. When any of Allen’s siblings tried to talk to her, she would scream at them and kick them out of the room, so Allen went in to reason with her.

“She’s in bed like, ‘No. I’m not going anywhere.’ And she’s this rigor mortis, 105 pounds, she goes stiff, like, go ahead, try to get me, I’m not going anywhere. She’s screaming at me. I say, ‘I’m going to take you to the car. I’m going to lift you up. We’re going back there.’ She goes, ‘You go ahead and try,’” Allen recalled. “[I say], ‘Here’s what’s going to happen. I’m going to have to use some weight…to get you in the chair. So, it’s not going to be uncomfortable. I’m not going to hurt your knee.’”

“So, she’s like this stick. I’ve got this stick… and I bend her… I get her in the wheelchair and as I get down to put her foot in the stirrup, she kicks me so hard…” Allen continued. “I look over my shoulder and my brother is now laughing so hard, he’s just bent over.”

Allen’s story, however, didn’t end there. After recovering from the kick, he brought her to the car where he received another dose of payback for moving her into the retirement home.

“I lift her up, and she’s like a baby, and I get her and as soon as I get her in a vulnerable position to scoop her up, she hauls off and hits me with her fist on the side of my head. Now, my glasses fly off and hit the ground,” Allen said.

“We get back to the home, and now I’m getting her out,” Allen added. “I’m doing this to get her out of the wheelchair, and she looks at me and goes, ‘You got to admit, that was kind of funny.’ She did it all for a gag. I said, ‘God, mom, you didn’t pull the punch though. [And] you kicked me so hard that first kick, I thought you broke my nose.’”

This story is par for the course for Allen who is a family man through and through. In 2023, he starred in the Disney+ show THE SANTA CLAUSE with his daughter, and now he is leading SHIFTING GEARS, a show that emphasizes the importance of family, while also providing entertainment meant for children and parents to watch together.

“That’s what I’ve always wanted to play,” he said of his role as Matt on SHIFTING GEARS. “I get to be more of a creative guy in grief over the loss of a wife. It’s a comedy, though!”
