Every year, the four women have a progressive dinner at Christmas where one of the mothers prepares appetizers one night, another prepares an entrée another night and the third mother prepares desserts on the final night. At a tea together, Savannah, the youngest, suggests that they do historical themes this year. Her great grandmother will center her night on how she celebrated Christmas in the 1940s. Her mother will celebrate the 1990s when she makes the entre dinner. Finally, her grandmother will celebrate the 1960s on the final night, the dessert night.

At the tea, both the great grandmother and Savannah announce that they’re seeing someone. So, the rest of the movie shows how the two new boyfriends fit in with the family.
