The movie is like a show within a show. When it starts to snow, Dolly Parton is inspired and calls her partner, Sam Haskell, to tell him she has an idea. The idea is to produce a beautiful Christmas special in just a few weeks. Happily, a big television network is willing to pick up the special because the network executive says Dolly brings positive, inspirational content in a bleak world. Dolly then heads to the Mountains and sings a beautiful version of “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” the famous gospel song about the birth of Jesus Christ and His salvation.

Sam is hard at work at Dollywood in the Tennessee Mountains, focusing on how to put together this special. Dolly is also working hard, trying to find inspiration to song lyrics. When she’s thinking and contemplating, she walks into the barn and sees Willie Nelson. Together, they sing a beautiful song, and Willie gives Dolly some inspiration.

However, Dolly is still trying to figure out the missing piece to what is needed for her special. On top of that, the choreographer has decided to leave the show, even though there’s only a couple hours to go before they are live with the special. Will Dolly be able to figure out what will make this special actually special?

DOLLY PARTON’S MOUNTAIN MAGIC CHRISTMAS is a wonderful Christmas special that stresses Christ in the center of Christmas.
