More Detail:

Set in 1962, BLUE SKY centers around a military family whose fulcrum is the sexually scandalous and unpredictable behavior of the mother. Nuclear engineer Major Hank Marshall (Tommy Lee Jones) is a “moral” and loving husband and father who will not take part in a military cover-up, the result of top secret nuclear testing. Hank’s wife, Carly (Jessica Lange), is a beautiful woman driven by an unbridled sensuality and a desperate need to command center stage. She loves to gain the attention of men, which sets the stage for extramarital affairs. Carly’s recklessness and Hank’s unwillingness to accept military injustice throw the family into turmoil.

The only positive elements in BLUE SKY are that good triumphs over evil and that the family stays together. The movie shows the craziness of Carly and the patience and forgiveness of Hank, but the ending is unsatisfying. Neither the family relationship nor the “honest man standing up against the injustices of the military” are properly developed. Sexually provocative dancing, female frontal nudity, fondling, sexual immorality, and foul language plague BLUE SKY. Neither the production quality nor the moral quality are worthy of the price of admission.
