EPIPHANY

EPIPHANY is one of those small novels that pack a big punch. It is a brilliant insight into human emotions from the perspective of a father who has just passed away. Richard Lee, the father, has died near his beloved home in a small town. Richard was not perfect, but he had a deep faith and gave constantly to those around him. His children suffer from all the problems of ordinary people. His daughter, Ruth, got into a lifestyle that she regrets and is afraid to come back home to her true love, a hometown boy. His older son, David, has made a lot of money and is resentful that his father didn’t give more to his own family. His younger son, Jonathan, has avoided his true talent as an artist because of self-doubt. Richard “sees” his children during the funeral at Christmas time.

Although one could debate the theology of the nether condition before the father enters into the glory of heaven, the book is actually a strong call to evangelical faith in a winsome way. EPIPHANY is not just charming: it is a revelation of God’s presence with us.
