THE CHASE combines action, comedy and media sensationalism to tell the story of an innocent man, Jack Hammond (Charlie Sheen), who is unjustly accused and convicted of armed robbery. Dealing with the system proves unfruitful causing Jack to try more desperate measures. Jack takes a woman hostage to help him get away. She turns out to be the daughter of a wealthy man known as “the Donald Trump of California,” and two police cars and television Channel 8 enter the chase to stop the two as they head toward Mexico. In an incredible mix-up, Jack has been mistaken for the “Red Nose Robber,” and his hostage, Natalie, begins to believe in his innocence as they make their getaway. After hours of an exhausting chase, the two approach the Mexican border, and Natalie takes control of the situation leading to their final escape.
Loaded with bad language and fornication, THE CHASE is a high-speed action-packed movie without much dialogue or depth. However, the movie does accurately depict how the media takes an average situation and blows it out of proportion to the point of unbelief, and it describes how the legal system can be severely unjust. THE CHASE points out how the media and politics can work together to falsely accuse the innocent, forcing them to live a life of crime and making it seem lawful for the accused to take whatever means necessary to obtain justice.
