The Casa Hogar is an all-boys orphanage in Cabo, Mexico that run by Omar and his wife, Becca. Omar finds great purpose and meaning to running the orphanage and will do anything to help the boys in the house. One night Omar is told that one of the little boys walked down to an extremely unsafe area of town, so of course Omar goes in the middle of the night to rescue the boy even in the midst of gang violence. However, Omar keeps getting a call from the bank saying he owes more than $100,000. He really doesn’t know what to do but decides to go to his friend, Wayne, and ask if Wayne can put in a good word for him. Wayne is the head of a lucrative fishing competition, and the registration is the same day Omar shows up.
When Omar arrives, he sees Wade, an older, rugged fisherman complaining about the entry fee for the competition. Wade has already won the fishing competition twice and doesn’t believe he needs to pay the fee. Omar’s friend, Wayne, tells Wade that, if he takes Omar and some of the boys in the orphanage out on the boat with him, Wayne will waive the entry fee. Both Omar and Wade don’t want to do the competition together, but they concede because, if they do win and catch a big blue marlin, they will win hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Along with the boys from the orphanage, Omar brings a boy to the boat who was caught stealing. Omar hopes the boys learn responsibility out on the boat, but when the boys start fighting, they lose a fish that’s already on the line. Will they be able to work together? Will they find a big blue marlin? Will they save the orphanage? Will Wade learn to be kind to the boys on the boat?
