DARWIN’S DILEMMA is a remarkable documentary movie showing in clear factual, scientific terms that Darwin understood the primary weakness of his theory of evolution. As the paleontologist Stephen J. Gould says, “The fossil record had caused Darwin more grief than joy. Nothing distressed him more than the Cambrian Explosion.” Darwin fretted over the Cambrian Explosion all of his life. Very simply, the Cambrian Explosion is that period in geological history where, suddenly, a myriad of animals appeared. As Richard Dawkins, the famous atheist, said, “It is as though they were just planted there with no previous evolutionary record.”
In the video, scientists from Cambridge and many other prestigious institutions, describe the problem of the Cambrian Explosion. If the history of life on Planet Earth was seen as if it were a 24-hour clock, at one particular point, within less than two minutes, most of the animal life forms appeared. It was as if all this happened overnight.
Surprisingly, the Chinese scientists are more honest about it. Discoveries in China in 1984 have confirmed the unique quality of the Cambrian Explosion.
