DIAL M FOR MURDER

In Alfred Hitchcock’s DIAL M FOR MURDER, Ray Milland is playboy Tony Wendice, the discontented husband of beautiful wife Margot. Margot, played by Grace Kelly, is having an affair with mystery author Mark Halliday. Rather than divorce his wife, Tony plans her murder and blackmails an old college chum into committing the crime, hoping to obtain Margot’s family fortune. Tony seems to have every step choreographed to perfection, even setting up his own alibi. However, the murder attempt backfires, and Margot winds up killing her attacker. A frantic Tony quickly speeds home to rearrange the scene to make it look like Margot planned the murder because she was being blackmailed. The Chief Inspector pieces together the mystery, but all the evidence points to Margot. The day before her execution, the Inspector tries one last test to prove Margot’s innocence and incriminate Tony.

DIAL M FOR MURDER is another of Hitchcock’s classic murder mysteries. The suspense comes in knowing the murderer and wondering when and if he will slip up and get caught. Ray Milland and Grace Kelly turn in stellar performances as the unhappy couple, while a riveting plot of intrigue and suspense weaves around the perfect murder attempt. The only element warranting discretion occurs when a man is stabbed with a pair of scissors and then falls on them.
