DOG DAYS follows several different storylines about six people who learn to care for something other than themselves. DOG DAYS has strong moral, redemptive messages about becoming less self-focused, sacrifice and learning to care for others, but there are some cautionary elements that warrant caution for older children.
Elizabeth loves her job as a host of a news program, but when she comes home and finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, she’s distraught. Soon after, while interviewing a sports player named Jimmy, she has a breakdown on camera, but it didn’t help that Jimmy was goading her. When she apologizes to her boss, the boss tells her this was the most views they’ve ever gotten, so Jimmy is now going to become her co-host.
At the end of the day, the only thing that comforts Elizabeth is coming home to her dog, Sam. Will Elizabeth learn to love someone again after being hurt by her boyfriend?
Tara works at a coffee shop and is interested in the veterinarian who works across the street, but one of the customers, Garrett, really likes her. Garrett works at the dog rescue where Tara decides to volunteer. When Garrett finds out he has to move the rescue because his landlord sold the building without telling him, he’s worried he won’t be able to find another building he can afford. Tara decides to help Garrett plan a large fundraiser, but will they be able to make enough money?
Grace and her husband have decided to adopt a young girl named Amelia. After many attempts to make Amelia feel comfortable, Grace is saddened by the fact that Amelia isn’t happy. When Amelia finds a dog on the street, she becomes joyous and calls Grace her mother. Will they have to return the dog to its owner, and Amelia return to her shell?
Dax is a selfish young man who neglects others. His sister is having twin babies, and he didn’t even go help at her baby shower. Because of this, his sister says Dax needs to take care of their dog, while she and her husband figure out how to manage twin babies. Of course, Dax isn’t excited to have a dog, especially since he loves his single life style. Will Dax learn how to care for something other than himself?
DOG DAYS is a funny movie with some heartfelt moments. The movie has a lower budget, but the stories make up for it. Some of the storylines could have probably been removed, but the movie is trying to follow the model of CRASH, with multiple storylines and characters coming together at the end.
DOG DAYS has a strong moral worldview about caring for others besides yourself. Many of the characters have to learn to love others and give of themselves. There’s also an emphasis on motherhood and family. In addition, one character sings Amazing Grace.
