More Detail:

In FUN, Bonnie meets Hillary, who is hitchhiking on a California roadside as she tries to escape from her miserable life. They strike up a friendship quickly and Hillary decides not to catch a ride but to spend the day with Bonnie. Some of their “fun” is going to the mall, shoplifting, ringing doorbells and shouting obscenities at homeowners. Soon, they decide to steal some money by ringing a doorbell and faking an illness to gain access into a home. They enter a home owned by an old woman and their “fun” escalates to murder.

Told in flashback, this film examines young criminal and media attention towards violence in America. Resembling HEAVENLY CREATURES, this commentary on adolescent nihilism includes stunning performances by Alicia Witt and Renee Humphrey. Because the girls didn’t have any motive for the murder, the viewer is left with no sympathy for them. The film is filled with obscenities as well as depicting a brutal murder. Based on a stage play, FUN retains a closed-in feeling. Although some insightful points are made about killers, the film is slow, boring and shallow, and leaves the audience without a sense of fun or amusement.
