What You Need To Know:

HOTEL ARTEMIS is set in a futuristic Los Angeles during a riot regarding clean water. The hotel is a place where injured criminals can receive medical care and some needed rest. Nurse has been there for years now. After her beloved son’s tragic death, working at this hospital hotel for criminals is all she has. One night, when it’s “just another Wednesday,” multiple injuries put the hotel in utter mayhem. Also, some riots and crimes outside place people in the hotel who shouldn’t be together.

Despite some plot holes, HOTEL ARTEMIS is fairly riveting and suspenseful. It keeps viewers invested in what’s happening from beginning to end. Also, the movie has a strong moral worldview, with some positive redemptive elements of sacrifice. Even when Nurse takes care of criminals, she’s shown to possess a solid moral compass. Ultimately, good triumphs over evil, and important people do the right thing. That said, the movie’s foul language and bloody violence is strong, prevalent, and excessive. There are also a couple drug references. So, the amount of objectionable content in HOTEL ARTEMIS is unacceptable.

Strong moral worldview with some redemptive elements where the protagonist allows her moral values to guide her throughout the movie, the “good guys” win over the “bad guys,” there’s an obvious struggle to do the right thing and ultimately the right choice is made, and there are themes of sacrificing oneself for others and putting someone else’s needs above your own needs and desires, plus some environmentalist scares about clean water;

Foul Language:

At least 147 obscenities (including about 85 or more “f” words) and six or more profanities, including multiple profane uses of Jesus Christ’s name;

Violence:

Extremely high amount of violence and blood, multiple examples of gunshots and people being shot with a moderate amount of blood, people are brought into the hospital with wounds and covered in blood, there are multiple fights throughout the movie including people being choked with a rope, a head is slammed into a pole, a guy’s head gets pierced by a 3D scanner (very graphic), a woman slits a man’s throat very slowly with a high amount of blood shown, nurse performs surgery on a few different occasions showing the incisions and moderate amount of blood, man fights a group of enemies with an ax, and woman fights with surgical tools, which includes throwing small knives at her enemies’ throats, etc.;

Light amount of alcohol use, Nurse drinks whiskey from time to time to calm her nerves, but alcohol is forbidden in the hotel for the guests;

No tobacco smoking, but Nurse sets out prescription medicine for her patients, she also takes medicine for anxiety, there’s one short scene where a guy snorts cocaine, and there’s an implied heroine user in the story; and,

Strong miscellaneous immorality includes moral relativism, a hotel is comprised of criminals, and there are many crimes that happen such as stealing, a robbery scene, examples of secondhand revenge, and bad role models.

HOTEL ARTEMIS is an ultraviolent crime thriller about a hospital that caters to injured criminals, where violent chaos breaks out one evening.

After her son’s tragic death, Nurse lost her job at a hospital and received an unorthodox job running the Hotel Artemis, a place where criminals have memberships and can come there if they are ever injured. To her, it’s “just another Wednesday,” as the blood-covered miscreants pour into her hotel. However, because of the riots going on right outside, things begin to spiral out of control for the Nurse.

First, two brothers seek help and safety after their robbery goes south, and one of the brothers is fatally shot. After he’s put in a hospital room and receiving the care he needs, “Waikiki” is reunited with a girl from his past, under the code name “Nice.” However, she’s there on a mission, revealing that one of the patients is her mark.

The real chaos begins to erupt when Nurse sees a young woman on one of the security cameras screaming out for help after being shot. Nurse recognizes her as the friend of her deceased son. Although the girl is now a police officer, and it’s against the rules to admit her, Nurse knows she has to help her. The hotel’s owner is on the way needing medical assistance as well. So, Nurse has to maneuver her way very carefully around the hotel while still trying to help everyone as best she can. However, when she learns some startling information regarding the hotel owner and her son’s death, her world is completely altered.

HOTEL ARTEMIS takes viewers into a world set in a future Los Angeles filled with clean water riots and advanced technology. Also, with a cinematic return from acclaimed actress Jodie Foster, this movie reeks with romantic nostalgia. The story contains a few plot holes, but it’s quite unique in its form and keeps viewers invested in what’s happening from beginning to end. Writer/Director Drew Pearce previously wrote the script for IRON MAN 3. So, HOTEL ARTEMIS has a larger-than-life feel. This easily draws the viewer into the criminal fantasy world Drew creates.

The good news is that HOTEL ARTEMIS has a strong moral, redemptive worldview. For example, the female protagonist, a nurse who cares for the injured, allows her moral values to guide her throughout the movie. Also, the “good guys” eventually win over the “bad guys,” and there’s an obvious struggle to do the right thing where the right choice ultimately is made. Finally, the movie has positive themes of sacrificing oneself for others and putting someone else’s needs above your own desires.

That said, HOTEL ARTEMIS contains at least 147 obscenities, including many “f” words. Also, there are some strong profanities. The movie also has almost constant violence, with a high amount of blood and graphic images that could be disturbing, especially for younger and sensitive viewers. The amount of this objectionable content is excessive and unacceptable.
