More Detail:

An adventure like adventures ought to be, Disney’s IRON WILL is replete with virtuous heroes, treacherous villains and edge-of-the-seat action… plus some heart-tugging emotion to complete the package. Audiences will cheer 17-year-old Will Stoneman as he puts his life on the line, along with his family’s future, when he enters a grueling 522-mile dog sled marathon from Winnipeg to St. Paul. The year is 1917, war looms over Europe and the $10,000 cash prize for winning the Dog Derby could save the farm and send Will to college, not to mention rekindle his desire to live after the tragic death of his father in a sledding accident.

Mackenzie Astin stars and turns in a superb performance as Will Stoneman. August Schellenberg, in yet another American Indian role (see FREE WILLY), is excellent as Ned, family friend and Will’s trainer for the Dog Derby. George Gerdes is delightfully–and scarily–effective as the dangerous villian Borg, a cold-blooded and ruthless international sled champion. The entire cast is excellent, overall production is very good and the cinematography is beautiful. IRON WILL is too intense for small children. However, adults and teenagers will enjoy this great action-adventure film which meets the requirements of the Motion Picture & Television Code.
