KADOSH

What You Need To Know:

KADOSH, a new movie from Israel, shows two married women undergoing oppression in a small Orthodox Jewish community. In this movie made by an Israeli socialist, the community’s rabbi forces a married man, his son, to take another wife after his first marriage produces no children in 10 years. Although the son gives his father excellent biblical reasons to keep his first wife, the father pulls rank and orders the man to obey, much to the distress of the first wife. Meanwhile, the first wife’s younger sister is forced into an unwanted marriage with another zealot. The filmmakers argue that the only way of escape is adultery or death.

Because of some excellent biblical quotes and prayers, viewers might be lulled by the artistic pretensions of KADOSH, which means “sacred.” There’s nothing sacred about the movie’s viewpoint, however. Though done in a subtle way, that viewpoint is designed to undermine any sort of rigorous devotion to biblical faith, especially one with political and social consequences. Apparently, the National Socialists in Israel are not content with corrupting their own country with crude images of sexuality and humanist feminism; they are also bent on corrupting the world.

More Detail:

KADOSH, a new movie from Israel, shows two married women undergoing oppression in a small Orthodox Jewish community. In this movie made by a socialist in Israel’s Labour Party, the community’s rabbi forces a married man, his son, to take another wife after his first marriage produces no children in 10 years. Although the son gives his father excellent biblical reasons to keep his first wife, the father pulls rank and orders the man to obey, much to the distress of the first wife. Meanwhile, the first wife’s younger sister is herself forced into an unwanted marriage with another zealot in the community. The movie argues that the only way of escape is adultery or death.

Because of some excellent biblical quotes and prayers, some viewers might be lulled by the artistic pretensions of KADOSH, which means “sacred” in English. There’s nothing sacred about the movie’s viewpoint, however. Though done in a subtle way, that anti-biblical, feminist viewpoint is meant to undermine any sort of rigorous devotion to biblical faith, especially one having political and social consequences.

Thus, the Orthodox Jewish community in Israel is seen as nothing more than a rigid male world which has obliterated most traces of human sensitivity and wants to extend that cold faith to all others. The movie, in fact, portrays the most zealot leaders of the devout community as also the cruelest members. It also includes explicit scenes of married sexuality and adulterous foreplay, including one scene of marital intercourse which is quite bizarre and ridiculous. Apparently, the National Socialists in Israel are not content with corrupting their own country with crude images of sexuality and humanist feminism; they are also bent on corrupting the world. Here’s hoping that moviegoers won’t fall for their pseudo-intellectual pretensions.
