VIOLENCE! VIOLENCE! VIOLENCE! That is the theme of KALIFORNIA–a pointless thriller. It is a disheartening experience to watch such blatant evil be portrayed as entertainment. KALIFORNIA couples a perverse look into famous murders with non-stop unrestrained violence. The story is based on a trip to California by two unmarried couples. One couple is made up of a writer who is writing a book on famous serial murders and his photographer girlfriend. The other consists of a simple, naive waitress and her ex-con boyfriend. Throughout the movie both couples engage in deviant sexual behavior, and the photographer, who specializes in sexually explicit photographs, displays her work from beginning to end.
As one leaves the movie, he is left with a true sense of Satan’s evil and an explicit demonstration of the way in which Satan uses mortals as a means to his devastating ends. The best part of KALIFORNIA was knowing that each minute drew the end one minute closer. The horrifying part is the fact that someone, somewhere considered KALIFORNIA’s content entertaining.
