What You Need To Know:
Once again, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover play two Los Angeles police detectives in the new summer popcorn movie, LETHAL WEAPON 4. With Joe Pesci and Rene Russo reprising their roles and comedian Chris Rock on hand to add some youthful exuberance, the two cops battle Chinese gangsters led by Asian star Jet Li. The villain tries to murder Gibson, Glover, Russo, and their families. After an incredible, exciting chase down a freeway, the movie ends in a tense, brutal showdown in a warehouse by the water.
LETHAL WEAPON 4 is probably the funniest and most exciting of all four movies in this successful franchise. There is a lot of humorous repartee among the characters. The family and work-related situations they find themselves in are witty and well-written. The movie is marred, however, by strong obscenities, including a liberal use of the “F” word, some implied sexual immorality that is not rebuked and some brutal violence. All of this makes LETHAL WEAPON 4 a problematic movie for viewing by anyone, even mature adults. It would be nice, for once, to see a police thriller that is not rated R, or even PG-13. The question is, does Hollywood have the guts to produce one
