What You Need To Know:
LIZ & DICK is a riveting movie. It’s not salacious, but it is dramatic as these two superstars practically destroy each other’s life. For those who have written Lindsay Lohan off, she does a great job with Elizabeth Taylor. In fact, all the acting is good, and the production values are top notch. This is not a movie for children. It is, however, a morality tale. Viewed through that lens, LIZ & DICK shows that fame, fortune and lust can’t make anyone happy.

More Detail:
Underneath it all, LIZ & DICK is a morality tale, summed up by Richard Burton’s brother’s statement in the middle of the movie that, “An affair born in betrayal will end in ashes.”
The movie opens on August 5, 1984 on the last day of Richard Burton’s life. He is writing a love letter to Elizabeth Taylor, even though he’s remarried.
Cut to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in director’s chairs talking about their stormy affair. Elizabeth says she didn’t like Richard at all when she met him. Then the movie flashes back to the set of CLEOPATRA, where Richard makes a fool of himself, both with Elizabeth and in overacting.
Soon, however, they are an item. Elizabeth has gone through four marriages, even though she’s only 29. The director tries to keep Elizabeth’s husband, Eddie Fisher, and Richard’s wife, Sybil, from finding out about the illicit affair. However, the tabloids and the paparazzi blow their cover. The movie follows their tumultuous comings and goings, their two marriages to each other, and the moral perspective of Richard’s brother, Ifor, who tries to protect Richard from himself.
LIZ & DICK is a riveting movie. It’s not salacious, but it is dramatic as these two superstars practically destroy each other’s life. For those who have written Lindsay Lohan off, she does a great job with Elizabeth Taylor, even though she doesn’t have her beauty. Whatever Lindsay’s personal problems, she acts up a storm in LIZ & DICK. In fact, all the acting is good, and the production values are top notch. The movie actually goes on location and captures the period in Spain, France, Switzerland, Mexico, and other locations as few movies have ever done.
This is not a movie for children. Only media-wise eyes can see this is really a morality tale, but viewed through that lens, this movie clearly shows that fame, fortune and lust can’t make anyone happy. LIZ & DICK also hints, through Richard’s brother, that faith in Jesus Christ is the answer.
