In MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: THE MOVIE, the city of Angel Grove is under attack by the nastiest creature ever known to man: Ivan Ooze (Paul Freeman), a 6000 year old bad guy with a sharp sense of humor and a bad attitude. Zordon, an inter-dimensional being, recruits six teenagers of various ethnic backgrounds to combat this nefarious dude. Ivan Ooze is released from his prison after 2000 years by an accidental discovery on a construction site. Zordon summons the Rangers to the Command Center to strategize how to deal with Ivan. The Rangers teleport to the construction site to do battle with Ivan and his ooze children. While the Rangers are distracted by the ooze children, Ivan transports to the Command Center to disable Zordon. The ultimate goal: complete world domination. The Power Rangers get renewed powers and battle Ivan Ooze in a terrible showdown.
The effects and production value are spectacular but cannot redeem the negative philosophical and spiritual points. Yet, if all pre-teens and teenagers were as community minded as the Power Rangers, the world would be a safer place to grow up. We are to be filled with the Spirit of Christ, not the spirit of “animals” like the eco-friendly Power Rangers.
