In the unrated film, MY LIFE’S IN TURNAROUND, thirty-year-old Splick is a New York City cab driver who is spit upon by every woman he tries to pick up. His buddy, Jason is a charismatic bartender who surrounds himself with underage models rather than face any relationship that may become serious. Realizing that their lives are unfulfilling and unproductive, and afraid that they will “die weird and dumb,” the two men decide to bring meaning to their existence by making a major motion picture, thus providing the basis for this movie about the making of a movie.
The joy of this movie is in the fun of watching the two endearing personalities charm their way through impossible situations and still come out holding on to hope. However, the movie is ultimately as empty and meaningless as the early lives of the protagonists. It is a melt-in-the-mouth movie, pleasant enough to taste, but unable to fill any void. Even without lasting meaning within the film, this movie could have succeeded simply as an entertainment piece if the enjoyment was not marred by the constant flow of obscenities and the vulgar approach to sexuality that is prominent throughout. The exhaustive use of a few choice four letter words shows a remarkable lack of imagination in an otherwise slyly imaginative movie.
