NATIONAL LAMPOON’S LOADED WEAPON

NATIONAL LAMPOON’S LOADED WEAPON is a silly and ribald parody of police action movies. The story starts out with Jack Colt (Emilio Estevez), a Mel Gibson-type cop, foiling a convenience store robbery by blasting the criminals and the store to pieces. Mr. Colt comes to the rescue when a narcotics officer is murdered for a piece of microfilm detailing the events of a drug ring. The drug ring peddles their cocaine hidden inside “Wilderness Scout” cookies. Teaming up with Colt is Wes, a black, family-oriented cop in the Danny Glover mold, Mr. Jigsaw, and Destiny Demeanor, the sexy president of the Wilderness Scouts. When Miss Demeanor falls in love with Colt, she leads the crew to the General (William Shatner), a Vietnam veteran-turned-drug lord who is the mastermind behind the cookie ring.

Like NAKED GUN, this movie pokes fun at all familiar police action stereotypes, from the faithful dog to the arch villain. While some gags are funny, most delight in sexual innuendo or try to make a joke out of excessive violence. Overall, the sexual innuendo and double entendre spoils gags that are good-natured. NATIONAL LAMPOON’S LOADED WEAPON does not have any sense of morality.
