When fifth-grader Marci is asked how she spent her summer vacation, the film OUT ON A LIMB is the result. She weaves the whole nine yards, so to speak, as she tells about big brother Bill coming to rescue her from a villainous stepfather. Although the movie involves car chases and stunts, two moronic brothers both named “Jim,” and a fiery redhead named Sally, the end result is that Bill falls in love with Sally and chucks the million-dollar deal to marry her–a not-very plausible conclusion given the abuse Sally deals him from start to finish.
Despite repeated rewritings and reshootings, good technical stunts, a substantial budget, a talented cast, and an experienced director known for his hit French farces, OUT ON A LIMB never comes together. The potential for good comedy exists, but the film lacks a cohesive element that would bring the plot together. Most likely the missing element is the right perspective. However, the movie wins the prize as the worst film of the year. In fact, the movie deserved an R-rating not a PG since it overflows with obscenities and profanities, violence, murder, male nudity, sexual innuendo, and Christian bashing.
