THE ACID HOUSE is a compilation of three stories from Irvine Welsh, the writer of the movie TRAINSPOTTING, which was about young heroin addicts. All three stories are set in Scotland.
In the first story, a vengeful god punishes the human race by turning a young man into a fly because the young man doesn’t use the human powers god gave him. In the second story, a young married man is victimized by a punk hooligan who commits graphic adultery with the man’s wife, then dumps her when she becomes pregnant. In the final story, titled “The Acid House,” a young hooligan takes LSD and magically exchanges souls with a newborn baby, resulting in several disgusting, immoral scenes.
In the second story of THE ACID HOUSE, the married man’s adulterous wife seems to learn the error of her ways, and the couple reunites. The other two stories, however, lack any such moral lessons and have an unbiblical worldview. In the first story, the young man takes revenge on his enemies, per the false god’s proddings. The third and final story, which gives the movie its name, ends up being rather pointless and nihilistic. THE ACID HOUSE also includes nearly 400 strong obscenities, several graphic sex scenes and explicit nudity.
