THE ADVENTURES OF RAGTIME

"HOME ALONE, with a Twist"

What You Need To Know:

THE ADVENTURES OF RAGTIME is a low-budget family film that provides a fairly entertaining diversion for smaller children, with a few laughs for adults. TV actors Shelley Long and Jay Thomas play two married hicks named Samantha and Lester who, when they kidnap Ragtime, a nearby family’s pet miniature horse, get more than they bargained for. Ragtime is too smart for these goofballs. He traps them in a house by stealing the keys and hides from them so that he can do things like push them down a laundry chute.

A HOME ALONE clone with a twist — but without the same level of brutal slapstick — THE ADVENTURES OF RAGTIME is a family-friendly movie that advocates the need for children to have caring, affectionate parents. Despite its low budget, RAGTIME is shot and edited fairly well. There were only a few times where the editing of the comedy bits seemed to really telegraph the punchlines and dilute the humor. Audiences should not expect, however, a high level in the slapstick itself. Some of the slapstick is quite dumb. With better writing and more interesting things for the children to do, a Ragtime movie franchise could rival the success of the AIR BUD movies

Content:

(BB, V, N, M) Moderate moral worldview with scene of children praying to God at bedtime; mild slapstick violence such as man falls in horse manure, horse pushes man & woman down laundry chute & into tub filled with bubbles, hammer flies in air & hits man on head but we don’t see the actual hit, woman jabs man on head where hammer hit several times, & child falls through broken bridge; no sex; upper male nudity; no drugs; no alcohol; and, thieves kidnap pet horse & dog, father is a workaholic, & married couple withholds information from police.
