THE CATHEDRAL is an extraordinary, fascinating, 24-part course about these living testimonies in stone to the Christian faith. Each lecture runs about 30 to 31 minutes.
An expert in medieval history as well as the Renaissance and the Reformation, Professor William R. Cook has taught for more than 35 years at the State University of New York at Geneseo. Therefore, his evangelistic Christian faith and love of the Gospel was not expected.
Dr. Cook brings the history and the stories of the great cathedrals alive. He helps viewers understand early Christian architecture, the monumental Romanesque style, and Early Gothic architecture and all its later variations.
What is fascinating is that the cathedral, in all of its permutations, told the story of the Gospel from Genesis to Revelation. In many cathedrals, that story was told on the doors as you entered the cathedral, with sculptures leading from Genesis through the story of Christ, and ending with the Last Judgment, by showing people who know Jesus going to Heaven and those who reject Jesus Christ going to Hell. So, not only were they were testimonies, they were evangelistic testimonies. Better yet, Dr. Cook is a deep, solid believer in the entirety of the Gospel.
