More Detail:
THE CHOSEN: LAST SUPPER – PART TWO is the second installment of Season Five of the popular series about Jesus Christ. The movie opens with Jesus speaking to his disciples during the Last Supper before dropping viewers straight into the moment after His cleansing of the Temple. Everyone involved must face the aftermath of His actions, including Jewish religious leaders who conspire to trap Jesus by asking a series of questions. The movie sets the stage for Judas to betray Jesus, ultimately leading to His arrest.
THE CHOSEN: LAST SUPPER – PART TWO is compelling and well-made, matching the quality fans expect from the series. The actors do an excellent job bringing Jesus and the disciples to life, with a masterful emotional turn from Jonathan Roumie, who portrays the Savior grappling with God’s plan. The movie has a strong Christian, biblical worldview and features Jesus preaching to crowds and his disciples. While THE CHOSEN: LAST SUPPER – PART TWO takes creative liberties to deepen the characters and add to the drama, it stays very close to Scripture. The movie contains no objectionable content but does have mild violence. Otherwise, it’s acceptable for all viewers.
The movie starts at the end of the story with the disciples gathered with Jesus during the Last Supper. Soon after, the action picks up where it left off with THE CHOSEN: LAST SUPPER – PART ONE in the aftermath of Jesus’ outburst at the market. The local leaders discuss a way to entrap Jesus with a series of questions designed to turn the crowd in Temple against him. After a back and forth, the crowd yells, “Not the Messiah,” as Jesus leaves the Temple area.
Afterward, Jesus escapes to pray alone, and the disciples gather to try to make sense of His aggression, where Judas shows his true colors for the first time. The movie does a great job of showing interpersonal moments between Jesus and His disciples and their relationships with each other. PART TWO has a beautiful spiritual conversation between Matthew and Jesus, where Matthew confesses a lack of understanding when Jesus tells him his next sermon will be His last.
Meanwhile, clergymen gather to hear Jesus preach in the marketplace, rechallenging him with questions to entrap Him. When Jesus sees the clergymen, He calls them out as hypocrites. After a back-and-forth, designed to have Jesus admit He’s above the law, Jesus calls them out again on their hypocrisy, and the clergymen leave in a huff. This moment would be His last public clash with the leaders, who must find a way to stop Jesus from spreading His message without causing further embarrassment. Thus, Caiaphas, the high priest, plots to arrest Jesus in the dark of night.
As the story unfolds, Jesus grapples with the knowledge of His fate, and His disciples wrestle with the reality of the situation. Judas takes center stage as he becomes more and more vocal publicly about his doubts about Jesus, demanding that Jesus reclaim His birthright. The tension mounts as Judas begins to show his true colors.
THE CHOSEN series often features moments to create mood and build character development. Some scenes are added for dramatic effect. For example, Jesus meets with the female disciples for a meal. However, the movie faithfully follows the chronological order of Scripture. THE CHOSEN: LAST SUPPER – PART TWO immerses viewers in the days leading to the arrest of Jesus in a profoundly moving and spiritual way. It sets the table for the Last Supper masterfully and shows the heart of the Savior as He prepares for His betrayal and crucifixion. The stage is perfectly set for the events to unfold in PART THREE.
