More Detail:

THE ENDLESS SUMMER II traces the evolution of surfing from its early days to its current explosion as a sub-culture influencing trends, hairstyles, language, and fashion. Robert “Wingnut” Weaver and Patrick O’Connell journey worldwide to exotic locations searching for the perfect wave. Along the way they meet up with international surfing stars, including Gerry Lopez, Shaun Tomson, Nat Young, and Laird Hamilton. Even though surfing footage makes up most of the film, this documentary takes a deeper look into the culture of each country they visit. Also interspersed throughout are comic elements, some of which are funny and some which wipeout.

The movie also features spectacular cinematography. Director Bruce Brown utilizes special state-of-the-art technology enabling him to shoot footage in and under the water, literally alongside the surfers. There are also breathtaking views of the landscape. The major caution point in this film is the portrayal of surfing as being addictive. Pat and Wingnut literally risk their lives on several occasions to find good surf. Discernment needs to be exercised in handling these misplaced values. THE ENDLESS SUMMER II will entertain the avid surfing community, but the average person may lose interest in watching surfers ride the waves and listening to the surfing lingo.
