More Detail:
THE LIVING END depicts two homosexuals, both H.I.V. positive, who view their death sentence as an excuse to engage in bizarre and immoral conduct. In addition to graphic sex scenes, the movie portrays a nihilistic vision of life that is antithetical to Christianity. The story begins as Jon, a young film critic, discovers he is H.I.V. positive. One night he picks up a young hustler, Luke, who is also H.I.V. positive. Whereas Jon is conventional, Luke is a drifter. After shooting a cop, Jon and Luke leave Los Angeles and progress from one sex scene to another as they head to San Francisco. During their aimless wanderings, they ponder what will happen to them once they die. They conclude that God doesn’t exist. This vision undoubtedly troubles the men and continues to haunt them as they try to resolve what to do with their few remaining years.
Surprisingly, some critics have even lauded the film, some are calling THE LIVING END an important contribution in the history of filmmaking. However, the movie is nothing less than pornography, which will repulse the average moviegoer. Rather than being a forum to discuss the consequences of such behavior, the movie showcases homosexuality. In another time, this film would not have even been made–it would be illegal.
