More Detail:

Sure to be one of the best films of the year, THE RIVER WILD is a powerful tale of a couple struggling to recapture their love, save their marriage and survive a treacherous journey down the River Wild. In a last-ditch effort to save their marriage, the Hartmans take their young son on a white-water rafting vacation. Everything goes well until the Hartman’s encounter Wade and Terry. Wade holds the family at gun point and forces Gail (Streep) to take him and his accomplice down the life-threatening rapids. Gail must use all her skills and strength to save her family.

THE RIVER WILD is a powerful film. Academy Award winner Meryl Streep turns in a performance that should earn her another Oscar nomination. The most impressive element of the movie is how it captures the audience and does not let go even after the credits roll. The director does a superb job of creating a movie with suspense, action, drama, and comedy. This is a positive and uplifting movie in which good triumphs in the end and a couple whose shaky marriage is drawn closer together. Regrettably, there are numerous obscenities, two shooting deaths, numerous fights as the Hartmans try to escape, and a cultural reference to the “guardian spirit” of the Indians. Overall, however, THE RIVER WILD is a powerful and emotional movie that will leave audiences cheering.
