More Detail:

The R-rated THIEVES QUARTET is an unimaginative film noir about a “sweet caper” that goes sour when greed gets in the way of loyalty after four criminals commit the perfect crime. There is plenty of offensive material to go around in this poorly acted and poorly written thriller, especially in the areas of language and violence. Though the film scores points for depicting human beings as essentially sinful, those viewers expecting an engaging moral dissertation might be better off re-reading the book of Romans.

The film-makers here are obviously trying to duplicate the critical success of 1992’s RESERVOIR DOGS, the low-budget sensation that launched the career of Quentin Tarrantino and revitalized that of Harvey Keitel. Regrettably, THIEVES QUARTET lacks the wit and style that made the former film at least watchable in spite of its offensive language and violence. Without a coherent script, compelling performances or decent production values, all THIEVES QUARTET can offer is a pastiche of superficial genre conventions devoid of any emotional or philosophical core.
