What You Need To Know:
Each of these parables, while they are not Hollywood fare, powerfully communicates biblical truths. The humorous, ROCK AGAINST LUNG CANCER, stacks up well against most television programming. The best part of TRUE FICTION is Mr. Holmberg’s commentary, which does not obviate the need for the parable, but helps the audience to understand the subtlety and the emotive power of each parable. This is really worthwhile watching and an excellent way to reach young people with important biblical truths
Content:
(CCC, V, D) Christian worldview containing parables that show the consequences of bad actions; violent alligator attack; smoking; and, rebellion
More Detail:
Jesus knew the power of parables, and Eric Holmberg has learned from Him that parables do more to teach than didactic lectures. TRUE FICTION is a Christian teaching video containing three modern day parables. Each parable is analyzed on the video in a brilliant way by Eric.
“If You Love Me,” the first parable, is about a birthday fishing expedition with a boy and his dad. The boy naturally does not want to wait around to set up a tent, so he runs off to the lake with his father urging him to be careful. Ignoring his father’s advice, the boy goes out on a lake and is attacked by an alligator. The father rushes to save him and is seriously wounded.
The second, “H.A.L. 666,” is an enigmatic story about a young woman whose computer becomes born again. Littered with viruses and faulty data, the computer is upgraded in an extraordinary way.
The third, “Rock Against Lung Cancer,” is a very funny parody of a rock group that chain smokes throughout their celebrity press conference to announce their new charity to raise money for medical research to find a cure for lung cancer. Like AIDS and other celebrity causes, the answer to the problem is evident to all except the celebrities.
Each of these parables has a myriad of applications. While they are not Hollywood fare, they do get the point across, and the humorous, ROCK AGAINST LUNG CANCER, stacks up well against most network television programming.
The best part of TRUE FICTION, however, is Eric’s commentary on each video, which is strange to say after commending the parable as the best form of teaching. However, his commentary does not obviate the need for the parable, but it helps the audience to understand the subtlety and the emotive power of each parable. This is really worthwhile watching and an excellent way to reach young people with important biblical truths.
