Nick Cannon is very funny and entertaining as the young, undisciplined detective, Tracy Stokes. The movie's exciting and funny opening sequence brings viewers right into that mood. UNDERCLASSMAN has a morally positive worldview, but it contains some foul language and light sexual references (yet nothing really salacious). What really earns UNDERCLASSMAN an extreme caution rating from MOVIEGUIDE® are a couple scenes that seem to make light of underage alcohol use.

UNDERCLASSMAN is an entertaining action comedy, but it never gets past its B-movie roots. That’s okay, however. An entertaining B movie is better than a B movie that’s not so entertaining. What’s not okay is the movie’s apparent comical endorsement of underage drinking without consequences.
The movie opens with a fast and furious chase scene where Tracy Stokes, a young black bicycle detective in the Los Angeles Police Dept., catches a stolen goods ring. Tracy’s mentor and boss, Capt. Delgado, is irritated with the Lone Ranger mentality that Tracy brings to his job, but Delgado promised Tracy’s late father, also a detective, that he’d look out for Tracy.
Delgado agrees to give Tracy an undercover assignment posing as a student at a posh private high school, to investigate the mysterious death of a reporter for the student paper. Tracy suspects the student’s death has something to do with a stolen car ring. He zeroes in on a clique of white students, but personal complications make Tracy’s investigation more difficult than he thought they would be.
