More Detail:

WAITING TO EXHALE is the much anticipated film adaptation of the best-selling book by author Terry McMillan. The movie begins by showcasing Savannah played by Whitney Houston on New Year’s Eve. She has recently moved from Denver to Phoenix to be reunited with her three friends: Bernadine, Robin and Gloria. As the story progresses, we begin to discover the troubles they have with men. Savannah has been asking God to send her a decent man for years. She has gotten a two-ratiming Lionel and a married man named Kenneth. Bernadine suffers as she discovers her husband left her for a white woman. Robin is a very attractive woman who always lands men that lie and cheat. Gloria’s husband leaves her, but she begins to befriend the man next door. Through the course of exactly one year, these women overcome these challenges and reveal to us their fears, loves, hopes, and concerns.

Although a “chick flick” and at times unsympathetic to men, this movie displays a remarkable amount of talent, charm and warmth. The primary goal of these women is serving their own desires in gaining a man. The major theme of this movie is that disappointment and strife can come when we don’t allow Jesus to be our sufficiency. Furthermore, there are stark depictions of sex and obscenities.
