In the Netflix series, MR. IGLESIAS episode is entitled “Everyone Hates Gabe” because Gabe, the sitcom’s title character and one of the school’s two history teachers, won’t let Rakim, the star of the football team, play. Gabe placed Rakim on academic probation after the football coach switched him into Gabe’s class, but Rakim’s grades failed to meet Wilson High School’s high standards. The whole school hates Gabe until Rakim delivers with his grades and is allowed to play in the homecoming game against Wilson’s rivals.
The fifth episode in MR. IGLESIAS sitcom is funny and well made. It has a strong moral worldview overall, because the sitcom’s protagonist refuses to give a football player an A he hasn’t really earned. Also, the movie extols studying and perseverance. The “Everyone Hates Gabe” episode has less foul language and fewer lewd jokes than other episodes, but there are still four crude jokes. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children regarding the Netflix series, MR. IGLESIAS episode which is entitled “Everyone Hates Gabe.”
