What You Need To Know:
The second season of OUR PLANET is well made with excellent storytelling and camerawork. It has a strong environmentalist worldview, depicting the effects of modern man and climate change on animal species. Evolutionary elements are not discussed, except for one opening comment referencing how mankind left Africa “60,000 years ago,” a misleading statement that conflicts with other secular scientists and with biblical scholars with scientific backgrounds of the various kinds. The series accurately depicts the majesty and beauty of God’s creation. Viewers will be emotionally moved by the program’s depiction of the intricacy and power of the planet and its wildlife. However, OUR PLANET II never attributes God as the Creator. MOVIEGUIDE® also advises caution for older children due to some graphic depictions of animal violence.

More Detail:
OUR PLANET II is the second season of a nature documentary series airing on Netflix. It consists of four 50-minute episodes that follow the migrations of various animal species around the globe. Audiences listen to the iconic David Attenborough as he chronicles many popular animals, including lions, elephants, walruses, zebras, penguins, and sea turtles, on their journeys across land, sky, and sea.
The series is extremely well made with excellent storytelling and camerawork. Slow motion and an emotional score create an epic sense of scale for the subject matter. It is easily one of the most well executed nature documentaries currently available on streaming services.
A strong environmentalist worldview appears throughout the series, often depicting the effects of modern man and climate change on various animal species. Evolutionary elements are not discussed, except for one opening comment on how mankind left Africa “60,000 years ago,” conflicting with young earth creationism by one decimal place. However, Zachary Leung of Reasons to Believe notes that people in Africa, especially South Africa, were generally isolated for a long time, and this allowed their genetic diversity to increase over the centuries of isolation. He concludes, “Remarkably, the biblical, genetic, fossil, archeological, and geological records appear to be largely compatible, building confidence in the biblical account of human origins” in the Middle East.
OUR PLANET II accurately depicts the majesty and beauty of God’s creation, emotionally moving the audience to marvel at nature’s intricacy and power, even if the series never attributes God as the Creator. Movieguide® still advises caution for older children due to the program’s graphic depictions of animal violence and environmentalist content.
