Set up to be a thrilling, suspenseful film, SCREAMERS is a big let down. The year is 2078 on a faraway planet known as Sirius 6B, which has been embroiled in war for ten years. Colonel Hendricksson is commander of a handful of Alliance soldiers. Hendricksson decides to negotiate peace with the New Economic Bloc forces. To make peace, he will have to travel through a dangerous deserted land full of the dangerous weapons known as Screamers to get to Sirius NEB headquarters. The Screamers are weapons made for one purpose, to track down and kill all signs of enemy life. Now, the Screamers have started reproducing and want to wipe out all living beings.
SCREAMERS has only some mild suspense, and the special effects are nothing spectacular. The plot goes nowhere and leaves viewers irritated when the final credits start to roll. The movie is full of killing from start to finish, with bodies continuously being mutilated. The story also leaves a lot of unanswered questions. It never does explain how the Screamers were able to reproduce and get to look like people. Also, there never seems to be a real reason why people continue to stay on the planet, when there was nothing for them there except death. SCREAMERS is a waste of time.
