“Bullfighting,” the first episode of Season 2 of SOMEBODY’S GOTTA DO IT, first takes Mike Rowe to a rodeo being performed in Chicago. There, Mike gets to know first-hand the job of three men, who are supposed to distract the angry bulls when the bull riders finish their rides. The three men teach Mike to distract the bull by running around in circles. It’s a dangerous job, but somebody’s gotta do it!

Next, Mike goes to Acadia, Calif. to a gourmet chocolate company run by two best friends. Adam Dick and Dustin Taylor met at church and began to bond over music, carpentry and even knitting. The co-owners are carpenters turned chocolate makers that now have a world-class chocolate company with chocolate they make from scratch by hand every day. Mike Rowe follows Adam and Dustin through a typical day in the shop, as the co-owners teach him about the biology of the cocoa bean and take him through the process of making gourmet chocolate bars.

The machines they use are not the typical factory machinery you might see at an assembly line. Instead, the machines are old machines turned chocolate makers. For example, the machine used to shake the chocolate evenly into the bar mold was an old paper shaker that Dick and Taylor remade to fit their company. They even ordered a donut depositor off of Ebay, added a motor and frequency drive to control the portions of each chocolate mold, two ounces for every bar of chocolate.

Finally, Mike visits Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where he meets Lance Mack, who’s been impersonating President Abraham Lincoln for 25 years. Lance inspires viewers and Mike with a couple pertinent quotes from “the Great Emancipator.”

The production of “Bullfighting” is well done for a Reality TV show. Perhaps the most inspirational part is when Mike, without mentioning the reference, states “Behold, I make all things new” from Revelation 21:5. He explains that, for Adam and Dustin’s chocolate company, “it is not just an inspirational maxim but a business model that has seen Adam and Dustin transform discarded junk into the very means of creating a world-class treat.” It is a very Biblical worldview without directly mentioning it is from the Bible, making it appealing to many media-wise viewers. This episode is about hard work and faith, two things that God wants each and every one of us to do in our daily lives. He commands us in Colossians 3:23 to “do everything as if working for Him,” with passion and heart. This is truly the epitome of a TV episode for the entire family.

TBN is now running edited reruns of Mike Rowe’s show, as well as new episodes. This episode was reduced to focus on the gourmet chocolate company.
