More Detail:

The second episode of STRANGER THINGS is titled “The Weirdo on Maple Street.” Will’s family realizes he didn’t return home the night before and a search for him begins. While searching for Will, his three other friends stumble on the young girl who escaped from the science lab. They take her to Mike’s house and hide her in his room. Because she hardly speaks, they have a difficult time being able to communicate with her. However, when she sees a group photo of the friends, she blatantly points out Will, and they know she knows something about his disappearance. At the same time, a few teenagers throw a house party while the parents are away. Two characters, Steve and Nancy, are beginning to become attracted to each other, and Nancy seemingly abandons her friend Barb in order to be with him. As Barb sits alone outside, a strange creature lurks in the shadows.

“The Weirdo on Maple Street” starts to ramp up the mystery and the characters begin to be established. The young children are especially terrific in their roles. This episode also has a strong Romantic worldview as children disobey and lie to their parents in order to do what they want to do. There are moral elements of helping others, as Mike takes in Eleven and gives her shelter. The foul language isn’t quite as frequent, but there are some gratuitous references to teenage sexuality. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.
