More Detail:
“Dictators, Murders & Thieves,” takes the subject of The Family to an international level, showing the ways in which, the leader, Doug Coe, and others tried to reach other countries for Jesus. Coe began to implement National Prayer Breakfasts in other countries, and the American Fellowship became an instant influence high profile people around the world. The Family and other conservative politicians travel to tell others about Jesus and implement conservative family values in countries like Romania and Uganda, for example. However, this creates a ripple effect of what filmmakers present as Christians sticking their noses into places they don’t belong. This episode contends that, although Jesus wanted to reach all people, the core belief of the Family is that Jesus favored the elite.
This episode continues to show the filmmakers anti-Christian take on The Family while also showing the steadfast Christian faith of some. “Dictators, Murderers and Thieves” takes a bit of a darker turn, showing some Christian beliefs that can be harming to others. It also grapples with the issue of same-sex marriage and a fascination with National Socialism. MOVIEGUIDE® find this episode “abhorrent.”
