Afterwards, Kate gets angry with Rebecca for her perceived criticism of Kate, and the two have an argument. Toby helps to smooth things over. Randall worries about his ability to handle the potential problems that might occur when fostering an older child with a troubled past. Jack admits his problem with alcohol to his teenage daughter, Kate, and has Rebecca, his wife, take him to an AA meeting.
“A Manny-Splendored Thing” addresses the concept of rising above life’s hardships to become “The Bigger Man.” Randall and Kevin each work through their fears of failure. Kate deals with her pent-up bitterness toward her mother. Finally, Jack admits his alcohol problem and takes positive steps toward overcoming it. While the struggles experienced by the characters are relatable, the show’s content is mature in nature and it is therefore caution is advised.
