More Detail:

In “Déjà Vu,” a 12-year-old girl named Deja comes to live with Beth and Randall. Randall struggles with the realization that Deja has experienced abuse, but his whole family strives to make Deja feel welcome. Kevin brings Kate for a visit to his movie set. They meet co-star Sylvester Stallone, and Kate tells Stallone how much his movies meant to her father. Memories of Jack begin resurfacing for Kevin, angering and distracting him. While filming an intense scene, Kevin reinjures his bad knee and begins taking prescription pain meds. Young Randall tries to find his birth parents. Jack and Rebecca continue to work through Jack’s alcoholism and the painful memories it brings Jack from his past.

“Déjà Vu” wrestles with the harsh reality about loss and pain. By refusing to address the pain of their pasts, both Jack and Kevin realize their relationships in the present are being adversely affected. In contrast, Randall’s willingness to communicate his internal struggles bonds him with his siblings and with Deja. The “Déjà Vu” episode of THIS IS US has a strong moral worldview promoting, honesty, love, patience, marriage, and family bonds, but contains some light foul language and mature content that warrant caution for older children.
